The launch ceremony for the Akademik Lomonosov floating nuclear power station (PATES) in Russia

The first floating nuclear power station (PATES), the Akademik Lomonosov, has set sail from the Baltiysky Zavod shipyard in St. Petersburg.

Construction of the power station began in March 2009. Assembly began in May at Baltiysky Zavod. The power station will be commissioned by the end of 2012 following tests.

“We intend to complete the project in exactly 22 months. The work is scheduled around daily tasks. Almost all the equipment is already at the plant, and the remaining parts will be delivered in July and August," Rosatom head Sergei Kiriyenko said. This project will revive technologies that have not been used in Russia for almost 15 years,” said Kiriyenko.
